The UN Economist Network invites you and the members of your academic network to the next in our series of global webinars in association with several leading international academic networks.
In this edition, we are delighted to welcome Jayati Ghosh, Professor of Economics of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst to discuss the report of the G20’s Extraordinary Committee of Independent Experts on Inequality.
This session is being organized in association with International Panel on Social Progress and its Global Social Progress Week.
The discussion will be moderated by James K. Galbraith, Lloyd M. Bentsen Jr. Chair in Government/Business Relations and Professor of Government at the University of Texas at Austin.
Reflections will be offered by:
Marta Roig, Chief, Emerging Issues and Trends Section at the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, and
Professor Marc Fleurbaey, Chaired Professor at the Paris School of Economics, CNRS Senior Researcher and a founding member of the International Panel on Social Progress.
About the Report
As a basis for her remarks, we have invited Prof. Ghosh to draw upon her experience as a member of the 2025 G20 Extraordinary Committee, led by Joseph E. Stiglitz, and joined by Adriana Abdenur, Winnie Byanyima, Imraan Valodia and Wanga Zembe-Mkabile.
An effort to build on the report and create an intergovernmental panel on inequalities analogous to the IPCC took steps forward in New York on the margins of the UN General Assembly Meeting last month.
About the Series
This global webinar series forms part of a broader initiative organised in association with the UN Economist Network (UNEN), a community of more than 500 economists across UN agencies, regional commissions, and country offices. The series seeks to increase the visibility and cross-pollination of pioneering work on reforming the pedagogy and practice of economic growth and development.
Its aim is to build a network of networks—linking scholars, policymakers, and practitioners who are advancing new approaches to economic theory and policy capable of accelerating progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the human-centred objectives of inclusion, sustainability, and resilience.
